WordPress categories explained for better site organization – Clantop

WordPress categories help organize blog posts into topics.Categorizing means to create different sections for different topics of your  website posts. It means to organize your website posts under various headings or  tags , for instance for creating posts for recipes, it will come under the heading of food or recipes etc. Moreover for sports posts it will organize all the posts into the sports headings. In this way your all website posts will be organized and managed. It will be easy for users to find some posts when they are organized or categorized.

Add WordPress Categories

Step 1:

Click on the posts, a new heading of category will open which is shown on the dashboard.

Step 2:

The categories page will be opened which is shown as under:

Following headings will be explained as under.

Name:Write a relevant name of the specific category after carefully researching the topic.

Slug:A specific word that is used to describe the category. To specify the page or post, this word is used after backlash/ at the end of the URL.

Parent: you can create the parent category from dropdown, you can select the specific category as subcategory or can save it as none. 

Description: You can write the details or description of your category. It is up to you to write it or not.

Step 3:After fulfilling all the requirements or information, Click on the Add New category.

Step 4: On the right side of the page, a newly created category will be shown after clicking on the Add new category.

Edit Category

In this section, you will  get to know how to edit the categories created in add categories.

Following steps should be followed for editing the category.

Step 1:

Click on the posts, a new heading of category will open which is shown on the dashboard.

Step 2:When your saved posts are displayed on the Dashboard, there is a button hover on the posts named as edit the category. There are two options of edit, simple edit or quick edit. Click on the edit button. 

Edit:You can click on the edit button to edit the category as shown under.

Quick Edit: You can click on the quick edit button as well. In this option, you can merely edit the name or slug of the category.

After editing or quick editing the category, you can click on the update button to save the changes as shown in the picture below.

How to Delete WordPress Categories

By following the various steps, you can easily Delete the category.

Step 1: Click on the posts, a new heading of categories will open which is shown on the dashboard.

Step 2:When your saved Categories are displayed on the Dashboard under the category name, there is a button hover on the posts named as trash the posts. Due to some reason, if you want to delete the category, just click on trash the posts button. Your posts will be deleted after confirming whether you want to delete the category or not. After clicking on yes, the category will be deleted permanently as shown in the following picture.

Arrange category 

In this section, we will learn how to arrange categories on wordpress. In order to arrange categories on wordpress for various specific categories, you have to download the arrange category plugin. You do not have the option of ordering or arranging categories in  WordPress Dashboard.

Step 1:

Click on the posts, a new heading of category order will open which is shown on the dashboard.

After adding plugin order, the category order menu opens. You can learn how to install plugins  in the install plugins section.

Step 2: you can see the picture under which shows the categories are not arranged categorically.  You can manage the categories by dragging the categories as per your needs or requirements. Click on the order category button for saving the changes or what you have reorder the categories.
