How to Add WordPress Users to Your Website

In this section, we will learn how to add wordpress users to your blog or website. When a new user registers on your website, you get an email for verification or authentication purposes. When you click on new user details, you enter into a dashboard to set the role of a new user.For more details, visit the official WordPress Users guide.

Step 1: when you click on the user, a new heading of Add new displays on a dashboard.

Step 2:when you click on the add new heading, you are required to fill in all the information of the user to proceed further.

  • Username:Write the username which should be unique. It will be displayed on the WordPress.
  • Email:Give details of the valid email address of the user. Registered Users will get the notification or message from the WordPress on the email address you have given.
  • First name: Enter the first name of the user who wants to register with the website.
  • Last name: Write the last name of the user.
  • Website: Write the URL as required information.
  • Password: Write a smart  password for the user consisting of characters and symbols.
  • Rewrite password: Rewrite the password for authentication purposes.
  • Send password:Send the new set password to the user through email.
  • Role:Click on the aforementioned role of the user as Contributor, admin, subscriber, author or editor which you want to give to the user.

Step 3: when you click on add a new user button after fulfilling all the details your user will be added to your user list. For confirmation, you can check the user list. A message of a new user will be displayed on the dashboard of the WordPress.

Edit User

In this section, you will learn how to edit the user in WordPress. Following are the steps to edit the user.

Step 1: when you click on the user, a new heading of all users will be shown.

Step 2:when you click on all user heading, you will get a list of users as under. There are two tabs of Administrator and subscriber are seen above.

Administrator:All the users for administrator roles will be shown here.

Subscriber: All the users for Subscriber roles will be shown here.

There is another option beside above mentioned, change role to box. When you click on this button, you will get a list of roles.

  • Subscriber: The user who can merely handle his own profile.
  • Administrator: A user who has the access of all the admin features on a single website.
  • Editor:A user who can publish and manage all the posts including other’s posts.
  • Author:A user who can publish and manage only his posts.
  • Contributor:A user who can write and supervise his own posts, however cannot publish them.

Step 3:Tick on the user name checkbox and change the role of the user. Click on the edit option as shown under.

Step 4:After that edit user page is shown. You can change all the fields related to the user and click on the update user name and save the changes.

Delete user

In this section, we will learn how to delete users to your blog or website. 

Step 1: When you click on the user, a new heading of All User displays on a dashboard.

Step 2:When you click on All users heading, a list of all users will get displayed on the screen.

Step 3:When a list of users will be displayed on the screen, choose the user to whom you want to delete from your website. Click on the delete button to remove the user.

Step 4:When you click on the delete button, a page as under will be shown.

Step 5:Anew page has a confirm deletion button, just click on the button. User from the website will be deleted.

WordPress User Roles Explained

There are different roles of users given by administrator as author, publisher, contributor or editor. User role means having access or permission to different users to use WordPress according to their role.

Following are the roles of users on WordPress.

  • Administrator: The administrator on the WordPress has all the rights and authorities. He can have access to all the information on the WordPress. He can add or delete any user at any time. He can also edit the role of the user, adding more admin and deleting any posts.
  • Editor:An editor has the permission to all the posts, pages, comments, tags and plugins. He can write, publish or delete any posts or pages.
  • Author:An author is a user who can write, edit, publish  his own content or image.
  • Contributor:The contributor is a user who can write and publish content or images of his own. He cannot publish any type of content until it is approved by the administrator. After publishing the posts or content, he cannot alter anything from the published material.
  • Follower:Followers are the users who have signed in to your site to get any latest update from your site. He can only read and write comments.
  • Viewer:Viewers are the users who can only view the posts from your website. He can comment on the posts published.

How to Add a Photo for WordPress Users

In this section, we will learn about user photos on WordPress. You can add a photo of the user with the help of the plugin user photo by WordPress plugins . It is also helpful in adding a photo of yours on your WordPress profile. Following are the steps to add a user photo on WordPress profile.

Step 1:click on the setting a new heading of the user photo will be shown.

Step 2: after following the first step, the user photo option page will be opened. After making necessary changes to the thumbnails, then click on the button of the update option.

Step 4: To see if the plugin user photo is active or not, click on the user and your photo. In your profile page, you can see if your photo section is included or not. Here you can add your profile photo on WordPress.

Personal Profile Setup for WordPress Users

Step 2:when you click on your profile button, you will get the following page.

Following headings needs to be filled.

Name:

  • Username:Set your username.
  • First or last name: Write your first and last name.
  • Nick name: Write the nickname if you want to.
  • Public Name: Tick the box if you want to publicize your name.

Contact information

  • Email Address:Write your valid email address.
  • Website:Write the website address.

About yourself

  • Biographical information:Add some personal information.
  • Password:Set a new password containing 7 characters.
  • Rewrite password:Rewrite the same password as above.
  • Your photo:Set a profile picture from your computer.

Step 4:After entering all the information, click on the update profile button.
