Customize WordPress Appearance – Theme & Site Design Management
The WordPress Appearance settings let you manage and customize themes directly from your dashboard.In WordPress appearance, we will learn how we can make our website page appealing. This is all about theme management. By applying various themes, templates, images and style sheets, we can create our website appearance attractive. We will learn how to install, customize or add new themes to the website.
Step 1: Click on the appearance, a new heading of themes will open which is shown on the dashboard.
Step 2:After clicking on themes, a new screen will be opened. Move a cursor on any theme and get a detail of the required theme.
Step 3: As you can see there is a tab with the name of theme details, when you click on this tab, a page will open which consists of theme details e.g. version, description tags shown as under.There are two headings on this page, live preview and activate. If you just want to view the theme, you can click on the live view and if you want to have this theme on your website, you can click on the activate button.
Step 4:if you want to customize the theme, you can click on customize.
Step 5:All the details of customization is shown on the left side of the page, any alteration you make or you add something to the theme, all are displayed here.
How to Customize Your WordPress Theme for a Unique Look
In this heading, we will see step by step procedure to customize the themes. When you want to give your website an appealing look by applying customized themes. You can add titles, change the color of the theme and much more.
Followings are the stop to customize themes according to your website.
Step 1: Click on the appearance, a new heading of customize will open which is shown on the dashboard.
Step 2:When you click on customize, a new screen will be opened as shown under.As you can see, a chosen theme is shown on the right side of the page and any customization which you want to make to the chosen theme is displayed on the left side. So when you change any setting in the customize section for the theme, it is shown on the right side.Few options are described in detail under.
Active theme:When you want to change the current theme of the website, just click on the button of change.When you click on the change button, you get a number of themes, just choose the one and click on the save and continue button, it will automatically saved.
Site title and Tagline:When you9 want to include site title and tagline to your website, you can go for it under this section.
Color:If you want to alter the color of header text, you can use this section. If you move the cursor from the left side to the right, you can see the changes happening on the right side. If you want to include the color of your own choice, you can do that as well.
Header image:You can add header image either by random suggestions or by choosing your desired image by clicking on add new image.
Widgets:You can add a widget to your website page.When you click on this arrow mark, you will get the following image.You will get two options, main widget area and the second is secondary widget area.
Main Widget Area:When you click on the main widget area, you will get another list of widgets which will be displayed on the footer area of the website.When you click on any of the above heading, you will edit or add more. If you want to add a category to it, you will get a new window as under.In the title section, you can add categories and if you do not want to add any category just tick the box of remove.
Secondary widget:When you click on the add widget button, you will get a number of widgets on the side bar. Click on any of the widget to add to the widget list.
Add Widgets to Improve WordPress Appearance
Widget managementis a feature inWordPress Appearancethat helps you manage themes using tiny blocks on your website that perform specific tasks.. It is beneficial to add widgets to the themes, it helps to improve aesthetic appeal of the website. Additionally, it increases the user experience.
Following are the features of the widget management.
- They aid in adding content and features.
- In the widget area, you can simply drag and drop it.
- It cannot be the same for every theme.
Step 1:Click on the appearance, a new heading of widgets will open which is shown on the dashboard.
Step 2:You will get a list of widgets available for use as shown in the picture. Details are given in the above image.
Available widgets:you can add these available widgets to the sidebar main.
Inactive sidebar: These are inactive and not in use. It can be removed permanently.
Inactive widgets: These are also not in use. You can remove it from the sidebar main but hold it in settings.
Sidebar main:when you add any widget for saving purposes, it will appear on the website page.
Step 3: In sidebar main, you can drag and drop any widget and it will appear on your website page.
Background
If you want to make your website appealing and unique, theWordPress Appearancesettings let you use different colors, images, and patterns as your background.
Step 1:Click on the appearance, a new heading of background will open which is shown on the dashboard.
Step 2:When you click on the Background button, the following image will appear in the background image section.
Step 3:if you want to select an image for site background, click on the select image button. You will see the following image.There are two options showing e.g. upload files and media library.
Step 4:In the upload files button, you can upload files from the desktop. The following screen will be shown. Click on the choose image button to get the required file or image.
Step 5:In the Media library option you can get a file or image from WordPress media library. If you have images saved in WordPress media, you can select it from there.When you select an image, on the right side you will get a few options, e.g edit image.When you edit the image according to your requirement, you can update it and click on the save option.
Step 6: When you click on the background, a new heading of background color appears. Click on background colors to change the background of the website. You can change it according to the requirement. It is different for every website. Background opacity changes from theme to theme.
